El Cid

El Cid was a military leader and diplomat who conquered the city of Valencia, Spain. This statue of him is located inside Balboa Park, San Diego.

I took this photo as a 9 image HDR, and merged it with Photomatix. Afterward I imported the image into Topaz Adjust to increase the detail. Due to these photos being taken at night, the brightest shots were very long captures, which created a large blur effect from the moving clouds in the sky. I didn’t like this blur effect, so inside Photoshop I added a layer with the darkest of the 9 exposures, and copied it into the HDR shot. This enabled me to use this image as the dark background, whilst maintaining the HDR effect on the actual statue.
